There are over 26 Medicare Advantage Plans available in Mississippi, and as you can imagine sorting through all of them can be confusing and time-consuming.

We aim to be a trusted healthcare information source for aging adults and their loved ones because we believe everyone deserves high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage. We create informational resources (Note: We do not sell or provide health insurance) that are specifically designed to help people navigate the complex maze that is Medicare and understand how to enroll as well as the differences among the myriad of plans.

The newly updated resource on Medicare Advantage Plans in Mississippi helps guide seniors through all of the available Medicare plans, eligibility requirements, enrollment guidelines, and their many benefits. Most importantly, we provide a list of helpful community organizations throughout Mississippi that further support seniors with their healthcare needs.

Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)

Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is the agency’s core federal funding. The CSBG Program provides services to eligible, low-income households. The Program aims to assist individuals in overcoming obstacles that prevent them from being self-sufficient. Eligibility is based on 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

CSBG offers Direct Services and Case Management Services.

  • Direct Services provide assistance with utilities, rental and security deposits, certain types of medicine and eyeglasses for work related purposes.
  • Case Management Services is a structured method of accessing client goal(s) through coordinating, monitoring, and offering monetary and non-monetary services. These programs are designed to help clients and households reach self-sufficiency. Monetary assistance may provide support with gas for transportation, energy bills, school related requirements, and rent and mortgage assistance. Non-monetary assistance consists of referrals, trainings, and workshops that improve the quality of life for individuals or households.

Community Action of South Mississippi employs two (2) Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW); three (3) Licensed Social Workers (LSW); four (4) Bachelor of Social Workers (BSW); and six (6) Case Workers. The employees are committed to the Agency’s mission and vision and are available by appointment.

In 2022, 130 families avoided eviction through CSBG assistance.
