Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free and confidential tax preparation services for qualifying individuals and families.

VITA services in South Mississippi are provided by Community Action of South Mississippi in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service. All tax returns are prepared by volunteers who are IRS-certified and trained to meet federal quality and confidentiality standards.

Who May Qualify

VITA services are generally available to:

• Low to moderate income individuals and families
• Seniors
• Individuals with disabilities
• Taxpayers with limited English proficiency

Eligibility is determined based on IRS program guidelines and volunteer availability.

What to Bring

To complete your tax return, please bring:

Child/Dependent Care Tax statement, if applicable. Student loan interest/college tuition expenses paid.

Photo ID and Social Security Card for all people claimed

All W-2s, 1098s, 1099s, and all other income received.

Form 8332 for non- custodial parent claiming child.

Bank Routing & Account Numbers (Direct Deposit)

Additional documentation to claim possible tax credits, such as the EIC, CTC, Retirement credits, etc.
