Help paying home energy bills, emergency energy crisis assistance, weatherization, and energy related home repairs. Available in George, Harrison, and Jackson counties.
Emergency food assistance for residents of Jackson County and George County. Walk in during office hours. No appointment needed.
Head Start and Early Head Start for children from birth through age 5 at nine centers across Jackson County. First Step Childcare (ages 2 to 5) and Afterschool Program (ages 5 to 12) also available.
Demand response transportation for seniors 60 and older in Jackson County. All vehicles are ADA compliant with wheelchair lifts. Drivers hold CDL with passenger endorsement.
Help with rent, security deposits, utilities, and other essential expenses through the Community Services Block Grant program. Case managers can also connect you to medicine and eyeglass assistance for work.
Daily activities, socialization, and nutritious meals for adults 60 and older. Two locations in Jackson County. Transportation provided for registered participants. No fees charged; donations are welcome.
Free and confidential tax filing from IRS certified volunteers through the VITA program. Available at three locations for eligible individuals and families.
Free workshops on budgeting, credit building, and debt management. Access FDIC Money Smart tools and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau guides at no cost.

Most CASOMS programs are completely free for eligible residents, including energy assistance, food pantry, Head Start, senior centers, transportation, tax preparation, financial literacy workshops, and parenting classes. First Step Childcare and the Afterschool Program have weekly fees. Eligibility for free programs is typically based on household income.
It depends on the program. Energy assistance (LIHEAP) serves George, Harrison, and Jackson counties. Head Start centers, food pantry, senior centers, and transportation are in Jackson County. VITA tax preparation is available in Jackson, Harrison, and George counties. Call (228) 769-3292 to find out which programs are available in your area.
It depends on the program. The food pantry does not require any documents; just your name, address, and income for a short form. For most other programs, bring a photo ID and Social Security cards for all household members. Energy assistance also requires proof of income (pay stubs, award letters, or a notarized zero income affidavit) and proof of residence (utility bill, lease, or mortgage statement). Call ahead if you are unsure what to bring.
Yes. Many families qualify for multiple programs at the same time. Our staff will review your situation and connect you to every program you are eligible for. Starting with a LIHEAP appointment can also open the door to CSBG case management, which covers rent, deposits, and other essential expenses.
For CSBG and LIHEAP (energy assistance), yes. An appointment is required and walk-ins are not accepted for these programs. Returning LIHEAP clients can schedule online at casoms.itfrontdesk.com (opens in a new tab). The food pantry is walk-in only, no appointment needed. Transportation requires 48 hours advance notice after you register at a senior center. For other programs, call (228) 769-3292 to check.
CASOMS provides language assistance for people with limited English proficiency. If you or someone you know needs help in another language, call (228) 769-3292 and we will arrange assistance. You can also call the federal language assistance line at (800) 872-5283.
