Keeping Our Seniors Active and Connected in Ocean Springs

We invite all seniors (ages 60+) in the Ocean Springs area to join us! Come see what we have planned and be a part of our wonderful community. The Ocean Springs Senior Center has been a gathering place for older adults in Jackson County for years, and December is one of the best months to experience everything the center has to offer.

Whether you are a longtime participant or someone considering visiting for the first time, the center provides a welcoming space where you can stay active, build friendships, and enjoy structured programming designed around the needs of older adults. Registration takes just a few minutes and requires a brief Consumer Information Form, an emergency contact, and a list of current medications. Once registered, you can attend any activity on the calendar.

What's Happening This Month?

Seniors can look forward to a full schedule, including:

• Festive Gatherings: Holiday themed parties and luncheons to share the joy of the season.
• Wellness and Fitness: Activities like Tai Chi, gentle exercise, and other wellness programs that support balance, flexibility, and overall mobility.
• Nutritious Meals: A healthy, congregate lunch is served daily at 11:30 AM, prepared by Trio food service and designed to meet one third of daily nutritional requirements.
• Creative and Social Hours: Connect over card games, dominoes, arts, crafts, and more!

Each event is designed to be accessible, welcoming, and a wonderful way to spend the day. The daily schedule provides consistency that participants can count on, while the special events throughout the month add variety and excitement that keep people coming back.

Tai Chi with Angela continues to be one of the most popular weekly programs at the Ocean Springs center. The gentle, structured movements improve balance and reduce the risk of falls, which is one of the most important health concerns for older adults. Participants consistently report feeling more confident and steady after just a few weeks of regular attendance.

The holiday themed gatherings give participants a reason to dress up, celebrate, and share in the season's joy with friends who understand what this time of year means. For many seniors, the center's holiday events are the highlight of December, a chance to feel connected and valued during a season that can sometimes feel isolating for those who live alone.

More Than a Place to Gather

The Ocean Springs Senior Center is more than a calendar of activities. It is a lifeline for older adults who need connection, structure, and support. Research consistently shows that regular social engagement is one of the most important factors in healthy aging, and every program at the center is designed with that in mind.

Transportation is available for registered participants throughout Jackson County. All CASOMS buses are ADA compliant with wheelchair and walker lifts, and rides can be requested at least 48 hours in advance. No one should miss out on the programs and fellowship at the center because they do not have a way to get there.
