Celebrate the Season at EJC Moss Point Senior Center This December
A full calendar of fitness, holiday celebrations, health education, and community connection for Jackson County seniors
The EJC Moss Point Senior Center is bringing joy, connection, and festive fun to our community this December with a full calendar of activities designed especially for our senior citizens.
Located at 5343 Jefferson Street in Moss Point, the center has planned something special for nearly every day of the month, ensuring that no one in our senior community has to spend the holidays alone.
Weekly Highlights
Throughout December, seniors can look forward to regular fitness activities with Reverend Stallworth leading exercise sessions, chair exercises, and walking and stretching programs. These low impact activities help maintain mobility and health while building community connections. The daily fitness schedule gives participants a reason to start each morning with movement and purpose, and the group setting makes it easier to stay motivated than exercising alone at home.
Health education remains a priority, with dementia training scheduled for December 3rd through SMPDD at 10:30 AM. This important session provides valuable information for seniors and their caregivers, covering early warning signs, communication strategies, and local resources available to families dealing with memory challenges. These educational programs are one of the things that set our senior centers apart from simple recreation programs.
Holiday Activities
The festive spirit truly comes alive with themed events throughout the month:
Dec 16: Ugly Sweater Day featuring Christmas cards and candy canes
Dec 17: Santa Hat Day with Christmas games
Dec 18: Red and Green Day Secret Santa Gift Exchange at 10:30 AM
Dec 12: Christmas 70's Disco Party, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The Magnolia Elk's Lodge is hosting their annual Senior Citizens' Christmas on December 7th at 3:00 PM, providing another opportunity for celebration and fellowship. This is one of the most anticipated events of the holiday season for our participants, and CASOMS helps coordinate transportation for those who need a ride.
For many seniors, the holiday themed days at the center are the highlight of the season. Dressing up for Ugly Sweater Day, exchanging gifts with friends during the Secret Santa, and dancing at the 70's Disco Party create the kind of memories that carry people through the colder months. These events are not just entertainment. They are a reminder that the holiday season is about people, not presents.
Enrichment and Entertainment
Beyond fitness and holiday festivities, the center offers diverse programming throughout December. The Jackson-George County Library brings arts and crafts on December 8th at 10:30 AM. Regular Bingo sessions, including special Bingo with Wendall Wellcare on December 1st, provide entertainment and prizes. For those who enjoy games, corn hole, spades, and table games are scheduled for December 29th.
Healthcare partners including Aetna and Humana are visiting throughout the month, with Humana's Jeff hosting a Penny Auction on December 31st at 10:30 AM. These visits give participants a chance to ask questions about their Medicare coverage, learn about wellness resources, and connect with representatives who understand the needs of older adults.
A nutritious congregate meal is served daily, prepared by Trio food service and designed to meet one third of daily nutritional requirements. For some participants, the meal at the center is the most balanced meal they eat all day. Sharing it with friends makes it nourishing in ways that go beyond nutrition.
Transportation is available for registered participants throughout Jackson County. All CASOMS buses are ADA compliant with wheelchair and walker lifts, and rides can be requested at least 48 hours in advance. No one should miss out on the holiday celebrations because they do not have a way to get there.
Holiday Closure Schedule
The center will be closed December 19th and December 22nd through 26th for the Christmas holiday, reopening December 29th. The center will also be closed January 1st for New Year's Day, with activities resuming January 2nd.
Get Involved
Community Action of South Mississippi is proud to support the EJC Moss Point Senior Center in providing these vital services to our aging population. These programs combat isolation, promote health and wellness, and ensure our seniors remain active, engaged members of our community.
This December, let's make sure every senior in our community experiences the warmth, joy, and connection they deserve during the holiday season. New participants are welcome at any time. Registration takes just a few minutes and requires a Consumer Information Form, an emergency contact, and a list of current medications.
If you or someone you know could benefit from the fellowship, fitness, and community that the Moss Point Senior Center provides, we encourage you to stop by or call. December is a wonderful time to get started.
